Ares was the Greek god of war who was Aphrodite's lover . . . perhaps he wasn't everyone's favorite (could it have been jealousy? or the fact that he was a bit headstrong and lost as many battles as he won?) Whatever! There was never a dull moment when Ares was around.: : : : : : :    Dionysus was the original wild man. Known as the Greek god of ecstacy, Dionysus created quite a stir when travelling, developing an avid group of women 'groupies' called the Manaeds. Eventually the Olympians could ignore Dionysus no longer and invited him to take his rightful seat among the rest of the gods.: : : : : : :    The god of light, Apollo, had a civilizing influence on Mount Olympus, bringing science, art and music to the ancient deities as he gave them the benefits of his keen analytical mind as well. Think of the golden mean when you think of Apollo's name : : : : : : :     Poor Hades,a dark and moody god. He was the ruler of the Underworld, the kingdom of the sleeping and the dead. Naturally a moody and taciturn fellow, his life in the underworld would have been dreary and bleak had it not been for his marriage to the Greek goddess of springtime who he had abducted. Though Persephone didn't join him willingly, she soon learned to really love him and see the depths within his soul.  : : : : : :    Poor Hephaestus was lame. Lucky Hephaestus was married to the gorgeous Greek goddess of beauty and romance, the lovely Aphrodite. Eventually he overcame his disability and earned a valuable place among the other Olympian gods through his talent as an artist and craftsman.   : : : : : :   Hermes, the clever and charming Greek god of commerce and communication, travewlled the world and witnesses (and participated in) many adventures while he served an ambassador for the Olympians and the personal messenger of Zeus.   : : : : : :  Poseidon, Greek god of the Ocean, was an important figure in Greek mythology, constantly asserting himself upon the world as he struggled (often successfully) to enlarge the territories that were in his domain.   : : : : : :    With the end of the reign of the Titans, Zeus became the ruler of the Olympian gods and goddesses. His amorous adventures with goddesses and mortals alike were renown. Zeus was a god with great personal power and he usually used it to the benefit of all. He fathered many of the Greek heroes, gods, and goddesses and was a benevolent father and protector to all of them, master craftsman, artisan, and inventor,.    : : : : : :  Greek gods and goddesses, as well as their myths and symbols, play an important role in our everyday lives : : : : : : :   You might think that Nike is just the name of a tennis shoe, but she was the Greek goddess of victory who was always seen at Athena's side, ready to lend a helping hand!   : : : : : : :    Find help pronouncing the god and goddess names........find links to our favorite renderings of their ancient tales from Greek mythology   : : : : : :    Learn how these ancient deities play a part in your own personality, functioning as archetypes that influence the patterns of your live.   : : : : : :    Which goddess are you?
